The Trumpet of the Swan is great!
A classic story adapted by Marsha Norman, a great symphonic score by Jason Robert Brown, and a great cast led by John Lithgow, Mandy Moore, Kathy Bates, and Martin Short. A modern "Sorcerer's Apprentice"- wonderful narrative with orchestra. Your kids- and you- will love it.
Wonderful!
This is one of the most wonderful recordings I have listened to in a long time. I found myself responding out loud at the climactic moments of both the story and the music. I don't have children, but when I do I am sure this will become something I listen to over and over with them, and will never tire of it.
I am already looking forward to taking time to just sit and listen to this all the way through a second time! I can't remember the last time I simply sat and listened to any recording all the way through, but this album is well worth it.
I am also a music teacher, and can't wait to try to find ways to have my students listen to it. I'm hoping before long there will be some lesson plans for various age groups to use while listening to the album!
An amazing work from an amazing and eclectic composer.
Trumpet of the Swan does not disappoint and joins the other works of Jason Robert Brown as heartfelt and engaging works of music. The orchestral swells and expert instrumentation bring surprise after happy surprise to the listener, reminding the musical world that Jason Robert Brown is setting the bar for his contemporaries. A great value that will not disappoint!
