Introspective, Romantic, Dazzling...Perfection...
I got this album in the Summer of 2003. I was on a search for it seeing as Jonathan Butler AND Babyface contributed to it. What I got was much more than that. I have been a fan of Kenny Loggins for well over 20 years since I had Footloose on a Shell gas station compilation cassette. In the years since he has done nothing but made a very strong impression on me. When I finally got this album (My crafty aunt found it at a flea market), I opened the wrapping, looked at it, but I didn't open it quite yet. I remember that I got it and went on a camping trip with my family. At 16, the subject matter was something to behold for a teen, but it still spoke to me. Just sampling it was enough. I gave it a quick scanning and put it back. I then on the long ride to the mountains had my mom pop it in the player. The music made the drive a sincere joy. The music and scenery went very well together. Beautiful and full of imagery. The standouts for me were and are - Just Breathe, All I Ask, Now That I Know Love, Love's Got Nothing To Prove, This Island Earth, The Rest Of Your Life, and The Unimaginable Life. There is only one "Dud" in the bunch - One Chance At A Time, which for me sounds like an overlong demo song that's out of place with the rest of the great album. It does make the record perfect though, to have the flaw. Honestly this CD is worth whatever you pay for it. And way better than that awful 2007 country album he put out. Can't wait til he tries another like this...maybe about his most recent divorce, or family or whatever. I'll be there, enjoying this amazing artist again. 12 years later and this one still sounds like a new masterpiece. Excellent and Outstanding!!
Over Produced...
I am a long time fan of Kenny Loggins. The opening track seems to pick up where Leap of Faith left off; earthy, uplifting, world beat groove of a song called, "Just Breathe" the best track of this record. The rest of this piece of work comes across as sappy and over produced . The length of songs immediately suggest this idea; none of the tracks over 4 minutes are worth listening that long. It's based on romance and truthing yourself..... This is Kenny's most introspective record to his credit and the musicians hired for this are top notch. However, it appears Kenny was more intersted in writing lyrics about romance and love versus strong music here. Perhaps a good recording for possible romantic dinners..
An Artist Like No Other!
Just recently discovered this hidden treasure, and love it note to note! It has been a dream of mine to have this man work with two people (Babyface & Jonathan Butler) and to my surprize he did it on this effort, an added delight! This man is awesome as hell! A blessing to any ear and lover of good music and true talent! "Love's got nothin' to prove, the rest of your life, no doubt about love, birth energy, this island earth! The pleasure just goes on! You won't be disappointed with this purchase! I'm a fan all over again! Thanx iTunes.
