iTunes Review

Band of Horses fans already know guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Tyler Ramsey, but since 2005 (before joining BOH) he’s been releasing acoustic solo albums full of stripped-down, openhearted songs. In the same way artists like Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters, Sun Kil Moon) and The Tallest Man in the World infuse the singer/songwriter tradition with unique viewpoints, Ramsey makes the format feel fresh and evolving. He’s a fingerpicking wizard with a knack for crafting intensely effective melodies. “The Nightbird” was the first song written for The Valley Wind, and it sets the collection’s tone; it’s spare and haunting, yet brawny and bold enough to leave an impression on first listen. The title track is a lovely, lilting tune; Ramsey veers calmly into Neil Young territory with cascading melodies and scrappy quasi-falsetto. On the ethereal “All Night” and “1000 Blackbirds,” Ramsey goes for churchly harmonies HYPERLINK "http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%C3%A0"à la Fleet Foxes. Among the delights here is a fragile cover of the Cyndi Lauper hit “All Through the Night,” giving the song an entirely new face.

Breath taking

If you have not downloaded the album yet, I highly recommend it. This cd gives me hope and makes me in the beat mood. I love every song. Download it now if your in the mood to feel good! ;)

Excellent again.

Ramsey picked up where he left off with A Long Dream.., so if you enjoyed that, you'll like this as well. Not to say it's all the same. Beautiful acoustic guitar work and relaxed Neil Young-ish vocals still in abundance, but this time, more harmonies and a little variety in instrumentation and feel. I enjoyed the Byrds-esque departure of 'Stay Gone,' which gives you a sample of what he can do on electric guitar. Other favorites were the title track and 'The Nightbird.' Glad to see he got in his cover of 'All Through The Night' as well; he's been doing that one live for a few years. These records are a nice foil to the more rocking Band of Horses work he's been doing.

sooo good

I didnt know that he did anything outside of Band of Horses (which I love) but I saw this was new on itunes and decided to listen and it's amazing! I got it the day it was released and I've listened to it non-stop. I'm actually listening to it as I speak. It's so good, I just wish he and BoH toured in New England more :(

Biography

Born: Asheville, NC

He may be a multi-instrumentalist equally comfortable on guitar, piano, bass, percussion, and vocals, but Tyler Ramsey is best known for his career as a singer/songwriter. The Asheville, N.C., native began refining his sound while living in the western, mountainous region of North Carolina, where he studied local styles of folk music and drew inspiration from the country-blues musicians who used to travel through the area. Ramsey's willingness to collaborate with other musicians led to a lucky break...
