Album Review
Although nine of the ten songs on Dan Fogelberg's 1982 release Greatest Hits also show up here, this is a definite improvement on that prior disc. It has more songs (17), and extends its chronological reach all the way up to 1993. A few post-1982 chart singles are on here that weren't on Greatest Hits, though only one of them, "The Language of Love," was a big hit, and it could be argued that Fogelberg's most popular and familiar material is adequately summarized by Greatest Hits anyway.

The passing of Dan Fogelberg and my childhood
When I heard Dan had died, I was shocked. He was part of my childhood and therefore thought he should be around as long as I remember him. I listened for over an hour to the different songs he sang and parts of my childhood surfaced from memories long forgotten. Rides to school, sock-hops, my first crush and subsequent heartbreak...(sigh). Dan was a part of the soundtrack of my childhood. As an adult musician, I always sought out meaning along with a creative phrase and tune. Surely my foundation came from Dan's influence. When I sit down with my Martin and strum a tune, it's his energy I wish I could channel. Give the gift of a true musician / storyteller this Christmas to the next generation and keep Dan's spirit and music alive. For anyone who has loved and lost, Same Old Lang Syne is a must. For anyone trying to express the depth of emotion love can cause, Longer is a must. For anyone trying to save a love, Make Love Stay. For anyone who has lived through meloncholy and found hope, his music is for you. Dan, thank you for your gifts you gave in this lifetime. The next one will be even better. Peace
Good Bye Dan
December 16th...Dan Fogelberg died this morning after a valiant fight against prostate cancer. Everytime I hear one of his songs, it brings me back to my youth and I can picture where I was, who I was with, what I was doing. Thank you, Dan, for many years of beautiful and thoughtful music and lyrics...your memory will live on forever.
We've lost the Leader of the Band
Rest in peace, my friend. Your music is still here to soothe us.
