Record of a Legend
Sting has been making quality songs since the start of his career with the Police. Many of his best were done during that time, such as the stalker-esque "Every Breath You Take" and everyone's favorite, "Roxanne". This disc highlights some lesser known cuts as well as the bigger hits like "Message in a Bottle". While his affinity for potent lyrics is a definite forté, Sting still manages to present catchy melodies, like with the tambourine-laden "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free", that will have you humming it all day. Overall, this is an exceptional chronology of Sting's work and is highly recommended.
Necessary
If you think "message in the Bottle" is a song about redemption, listen again. This is song about loneliness and how in our search for empathy, we find there are others struggling along with us. “One hundred million Castaways searching for a home.” If you think “Walking on the Moon” is some ode to Neil Armstrong, listen again, it’s a true Police love song. No fluff. If you think “Can’t Stand Losing You” is a song about a Lover’s heartbreak, listen again, it’s a song about a person with Borderline Personality Disorder! If you think “Every Breath You Take,” is a cute song about lovers that are meant to be and you had it played at your wedding as ‘your song,’ listen again, it a song about a Stalker. If you think, “De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da,” is some meaningless ramble. Listen again, it about our society and our politics and the part we play in it. Simple lyrics, but so deep! That’s The Police.

This CD has all of the Police's best hits, it has all the necessary songs! Trust me, when you buy it, you will never get tired of the songs. Sting is at his greatest and so is the rest of the band.
