A Terrific New Album from a Great New Talent

"The Voce Project" is a terrific new CD by a talented singer/songwriter who's backed by a smokin' band. In particular, Chartrand writes great lyrics and marries them to inspired music. All of the cuts are very good; the arrangements are all great and all of the players are outstanding musicians. For me, the two standouts on the record are "Ghosts in the Orange Blossom Air," which opens with a haunting piano solo, and "How Thin These Walls," a fabulous duet with the very talented Khani Cole. Anyone who enjoys the music of artists like Amos Lee will want to snap this up.

Weeks later and I'm still listening!

When I heard Brian Chartrand was coming out with The Voce Project this Fall, I couldn’t wait to get it. Having had it on repeat for a few weeks now, I figured it’s about time I tell everyone.

In the first song, “Traveling Music”, my first thought was “Wow, Brian has a great voice.” My second thought was “Ooo . . . this band is AWESOME, too!” Track after track, I loved each track—that doesn’t happen often.

A couple of favorites:
“Ghosts in the Orange Blossom Air” is on The Sweet Remains Laurel & Sunset album. This version starts with a piano solo, which kind of reminded me of a Marc Cohn song (so sweet), and it’s a little faster than TSR version.

“How This These Walls” is a duet with a woman who could be Melissa Etheridge. Well, she kind of sounds like her, only I liked her voice more than Melissa Etheridge. (BTW, I think this might be my #1 favorite.)

I have to give a shout-out to “Snow Falling on Woodbridge St” because I KNOW Woodbridge St. OK, so, it’s not the only reason. It’s a good song, too. Love the guitar (not-totally-solo) solo. It kind of reminded me of an Allman Brothers song.

Seeing as how this review seems long already and I haven’t even told you how great “Barrelman” and “Shelter” are, it’s no wonder I’ve been listening to this album over and over. So worth the purchase and the listen.
