iTunes Review
As someone who has been turning to the sounds of Sixties and Seventies soul for inspiration since his days with Tony! Toni! Toné!, it must be frustrating for Raphael Saadiq to remain relatively unknown as neo-soul newcomers rack up Grammy awards and platinum records. Saadiq’s only recourse was to up the ante with The Way I See It. The album inhabits the atmosphere of late-Sixties Motown and Philadelphia International, incorporating the distinctly echo-laden drum shuffles of Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye, as well as the swelling string choruses of the Delfonics and the Stylistics. The album succeeds in spite of, and perhaps because of, its blatant appropriations (listen as “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” is recycled twice, for “100 Yard Dash” and “Let’s Take A Walk”). Saadiq makes no secret of his reference points, and his sweet, featherweight tone keeps the album honest and fun. That isn’t to say that Saadiq can’t sing, by the way. The dreamy ballad “Oh Girl” proves that music pours from this performer as easily as it did from Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder before him.

Nice CD
There are some cool throwback songs out there these days, like "sure hope you mean it" on this cd, the Amy Winehouse reocrd and even Solange got in on the game. My fav throwback right now is "love was made in heaven" by Nikkole on her "creolepatra" album. Raphael Sasdiq you really did a great job on this cd and I am definitely a fan. I'd like to see you tour with any of the artists named above.
Finally...The REAL Artists Are Gettin' It RIGHT!!!
I have to agree that the reviewer March Madness hit the nail on the head! This Raphael Saadiq cd is on fire. It is true, it is real, it is completely soulful and it is a must have. I was so impressed with what I read that I went on to purchase not only this cd, but also "Creolepatra" by Nikkole. Two totally, extremely satisfying releases. I also downloaded the new Noel Gourdin cd, "After My Time" and I have to say, I am in complete musical heaven! These cds are so well put together and so full of real talent. Thanks and kudos to Raphael for keepin' it hot and original and taking us back to our soulful roots. If it weren't for artists like Raphael, Jill Scott, Nikkole, Noel Gourdin and a handful of others, the music world would be empty and void of substance.
Modern but Retro, classic soul
Wow, amazing album. Think 60's 70's classic soul with a modern twist. It has the feel and sound of a classic soul record, and yet it still sounds very new. The music is full of life, full of colour, and full of passion. Classic, catchy vocal harmonies hover over warm soul music. This is definitely a feel-good record, and it is definitely more of a "Soul" record than "R&B". A must-buy, seriously. I want to say that this is the type of music that needs to be promoted, but I know that it naturally will because this is just modern soul music at it's best, nothing more said.
