iTunes Review
It’s a sign of how strange the music world has become when legendary blues and jazz singer Mose Allison records his first album in twelve years with singer-songwriter Joe Henry, at the production center, and the album is then released by an alternative label that’s become home to many other musical iconoclasts. Allison’s be-bop sensibilities can be heard throughout the staccato piano notes and his own light and airy delivery. The originals include “My Brain,” a rewrite of Willie Dixon’s “My Babe,” the swooning old world feel of “Everybody Thinks You’re an Angel” and “I Know You Didn’t Mean It,” where Allison clinks the piano notes with his unorthodox pounce intact. He phrases to perfection on the bumpy ride of “Let It Come Down” and he interprets Loudon Wainwright III’s “I’m Alright” and Buddy Johnson’s WWII-era “This New Situation” with his own personal authority. The piano instrumental “Crush” is an off-kilter bug-out that turns into a mighty chase at the keyboard.

The Way of The World
First cut I happened to listen to was "Modest Proposal" and suddenly got an eye irritation. If you don't like tearing up in public with pure joy over his lyrics, the swing in his fingers and in the rest of the band listen in private.
The Way of the World
Thanks Mose, I needed this! Your influence is legendary. Your lyricism is as true and precise as a Zen Master's teachings. You are one of the very few pianists whose style is absolutely unique, often imitated by others, yet never matched. This should be more prominently featured in i-Tunes so yet another generation can discover your gift. My only complaint is that i-Tunes has not included any liner notes to acknowledge the superb musicians with whom you share the stage.
Still Swingin
What a treat. Nothing diminishes the spirit and talent of Mose Allison. If you can see him in person...just do it. You won't be disappointed. If not, well.... listening to his recent albums is a very good second choice.
Heaven knows....All of us should be swingin' like Mr. Allison when we get to be 80 years young
