With the upcoming release of The Whites of Our Lies, Brian Zuckerman, the man behind Cyrenic, presents a powerful example of what music can be when an artist has the drive--and the talent--to bring his own visions to life, uninterrupted. This is because Zuckerman controls every aspect of his music, from composing the powerful instrumentals that drive each song to writing lyrics, performing vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards and programming and producing the tracks. Such total mastery gives him the freedom to produce songs that perfectly reflect his vision every time--and the resulting album is a powerful manifestation of that; each song possesses a unity and clarity of tone that can only come from an artist who has owned every single piece of the track, from concept to execution. Cyrenic combines intense beats, driving riffs, lush soundscapes and soaring melodies with raw, sometimes earnest vocals. The resulting sound is unique but will appeal to fans of both melodic and hard rock. Though the one-man setup may lull others into creative complacency, Zuckerman skillfully avoids the potential pitfalls of the solitary approach by imbuing the disc's tracks with richness and diversity. By playing with tempo, like on the slowed-down “Timeless” or the pulsing “The Whites of Your Lies”, he exhibits a knack for creating variety. On “Immune”, he even enlists guest vocalist Adria Zuckerman--the sole outside contributor to the effort--who imparts a hauntingly pretty quality on the track's melancholy back-and-forth. Overall, this is not music you 'listen to' so much as surround yourself with; it is only by immersing yourself in Cyrenic's sound that you can truly notice and appreciate all of the different musical elements at play and see through The Whites of Our Lies.
