iTunes Review

Flush with newly minted American success, the Who showed the U.S. just what they were capable of. Even if they abandon Sell Out's pirate-radio broadcast conceit after the album's first half, they make it their most refreshing album ever. Amid the still hilarious commercial parodies, Pete Townshend's (and John Entwistle's) songwriting leaps forward again and again here, while the band's playing is almost orchestral. Townshend introduces at least one theme ("Rael") that would wind up a highlight of Tommy, and provides some of his greatest kid-on-the-street reports ("Mary Anne With the Shaky Hands," "Tattoo"). Oh yeah, and there's "I Can See for Miles." The remastered version adds almost another album's worth of tracks, including more fake ads. (The Who actually thought they might wrangle some free cars out of the whole deal!)

Pushing The Creative Envelope

The Who are arguably the first Punk Rock band, Hard Rock band, Progressive Rock band, and with this album the first Art Rock band. The concept of producing an album which resembles a pirate radio broadcast is clever even if the idea seems to have been abandoned half way through the project. The songs are original, catchy, creative and altogether great. This is an album by a band clearly marching to the beat of their own drummer (sorry for the bad pun Keith). If bands nowadays had the creative chops or guts to follow their hearts instead of their bank accounts, they may possibly ascend beyond the foot of the creative alter in which they stagnantly labor. This is creativity's real deal!

I know now

Ok, I revise my earlier review, after listening to the cd over and over again i realized, this album isnt even bad at all. All the songs are good on here. Buy it, it's solid.

Damm

I was born long after the Who had had their farewell tour and have never seen any of them liv. I am from an entirely different generation and generally prefer rap. But i still love the Who. This album is timeless. The Who are timeless.

Few bands in the history of rock & roll were riddled with as many contradictions as the Who. All four members had wildly different personalities, as their notoriously intense live performances demonstrated. The group was a whirlwind of activity, as the wild Keith Moon fell over his drum kit and Pete Townshend leaped into the air with his guitar, spinning his right hand in exaggerated windmills. Vocalist Roger Daltrey strutted across the stage with a thuggish menace, as bassist John Entwistle...
