iTunes Review

Over Wilco’s rocky and wondrous career, leader Jeff Tweedy has switched out band members, been dumped by his record label, survived depression, and turned Wilco from an alt-country outfit stuck in the shadow of his earlier band (the now-legendary Uncle Tupelo) into a group that can do anything. And anything goes on Wilco’s first album for its own record label. Each track represents its own universe, with the musicians in the latest lineup settling into their roles so perfectly that all the songs sound like the same band despite stylistic shifts. “Art of Almost” sports a rockabilly-to-space groove. “I Might” turns up an early Rolling Stones–like fuzz guitar and groove. “Sunloathe” turns ethereal. “Dawned on Me” grinds out garage rock. “Black Moon” is a spectral and creepy ballad that slowly crawls through the wreckage. “Capitol City” adds a walking bass for a stroll through the metropolis, with a touch of The Replacements for good measure. “Standing O” flashes classic rock brilliance, while “Rising Red Lung” whispers into the darkness. Wilco doesn’t shrink in the spotlight.

Prepare to have your Mind BLOWN

Wilco's new album takes off where "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" and "A Ghost is Born" left off and transports you on a journey of psychedelic sonic delights and Jeff Tweedy's sometimes dark, but always funny lyrical ideas. From the first track, "Art of Almost", your preconcieved notions of where Wilco is going are shattered in a sonic cacophony of surrealistic sounds and strange otherworldly lyrics that leaves you both you disoriented and ecstatic. Nels Cline searing guitar makes you eager to see this song performed live. The journey continues on a musical roller coaster finally culminating in the 12 minute "One Sunday Morning" which doesn't have a false second and is a triumph in and of itself. This record stands as another milestone in the career of America's most exciting and challenging band of geniuses working today. Buy this now!!

Full of Goodness

Sweet Jesus these boys are good! My favorite band and strongest song writer of my generation, IMHO. One their best, prolly best since Ghost is Born. Its got rockers, country, pop, & experimental music set to astute lyrics. Typical Wilco genius.

Wilco rose from the ashes of the seminal roots rock band Uncle Tupelo, which disbanded in 1994. While Jay Farrar, one of the group's two singer/songwriters, went on to form Son Volt, his ex-partner Jeff Tweedy established Wilco along with the remaining members of Tupelo's final incarnation, which included drummer Ken Coomer as well as part-time bandmates John Stirratt (bass) and Max Johnston (mandolin, banjo, fiddle, and lap steel). Guitarist Jay Bennett rounded out the...
