The music is fantastic, it is too bad you can not buy individual songs though.
I am a huge fan of The Wiz and Michael Jackson. Several days ago while I was watching it I selected several songs I wanted to purchase. I went on Itunes to purchase them and to my dismay I was unfortunately surprised with the fact that I couldn't buy them individually. I was dying to buy songs such as; "You Can't Win", "Believe in Yourself",and "Don't Nobody Bring Me No Bad News". I don't want to purchase the entire album because there are several repeats and a couple songs I don't enjoy that much. I would be so happy if I were allowed the opportunity to buy them individually. At the moment I am not very pleased with this circumstance, but I am positive that Itunes will fix it. George Q
The Wiz Iz Finally Here!!!!
Great to see this wonderful soundtrack match its movie partner by being released on iTunes. It is hard to believe that it has been over 30 years since this soundtrack made its debut. It is sorta sad that so many of these artists that contributed to this project are no longer with us. In fact, only Diana remains, thank heavens, amongst the major stars. After a controversial debut, the movie has become a cult favorite and it introduces this sweet story into an entire new audience. The production by the Maestro, Quincy Jones is top notch and never more evident in the work he did with Diana. Diana is singing at a new level, in fact, reportedly her range increased by another octave from working with Quincy. Of course, the even more impressive collaboration with Michael would lead to the pair delivering 2 of the best selling albums of all time. It is Diana's voice that thrills here.....you hear nuances and shadings not quite realized before. Her work on this album also led her to deliver one of the greatest albums of her career in "The Boss". I love "Can I Go On" and "Is This What Feeling Gets?" (written by Ashford & Simpson) though lyrically, they are very sad songs. But its on "Be a Lion" that you hear the full glory of Diana's hard work on her range. Michael triumphs with his solo turn on "You Can't Win" (which I never knew had an extended version for the clubs). The instrumental interludes are elegant and classic Quincy. The colorful Thelma Carpenter adds a lot of fun as Miss One. And the great Lena Horne threatens to steal the show with her knowingness on "Believe in Yourself". It is unfortunate that Universal tagged most of this as an "album only" purchase forbidding the kids that this movie has become such a treasure for, from enjoying all but "Ease on Down the Road". Diana has re-added "Ease on Down the Road" to her concert repertoire and it is lively and very well received. It took over 30 years but looks like The Wiz has finally come "Home".
YAY!
I really like that they finally have this out!!! I just wish "You Can't Win" would be out for single purchase! I would be super happy!!
