Loving this album
I'm skeptical of a lot of what is labeled "yoga music," yet this excellent effort of drumming surpasses any simple label. Truth is, it works amazingly well in yoga classes (I'm an instructor) and holds its own in numerous other contexts. The sounds that Masood is able to conjure from his hang are incredible, and the diversity the producer pulls from a single source (with plenty of embellishments throughout) is equally astounding. This one will be in my iPod for some time to come.
The music makes you move
I was an intrepid traveler who loved to hike big mountains, snowboard in the back-country, trek through deserts and rain forests AND then I had a baby... well, my wife had the baby but you know what I mean. And while I still do these things, I had to find another way to stay healthy and connected... so, reluctantly I found yoga. Honestly, it has changed my life, but I've always been mildly annoyed by the music selections of most yoga studios. As a filmmaker and former world-music industry guy, I have a great love of good music... especially unique music that moves you, inspires you... and makes you move. This music makes you move... not in a dance club way... but in a beautifully chilled out way. Masood Ali Khan and David Schommer found a perfect balance in contemplative beauty and raw earthy rhythm that keeps it grounded in the groove. This is a great addition to my music collection because it is so unique... perfect for home yoga sessions or chilling with a cup of tea. Give thanks.. and much respect to the musicians.
