Album Review

The title of Tracy Lawrence's 2005 album Then & Now: The Hits Collection suggests that it's a greatest hits album — in fact, the sticker on the front cover bills the album as a "greatest hits" — but that's a little misleading. Instead of being a compilation of original hit recordings, Then and Now finds Lawrence revisiting a selection of his biggest hits — such as "Sticks and Stones," "Alibis," "Texas Tornado" and "Time Marches On" — adding two new songs ("Used to the Pain" and the war-themed "If I Don't Make It Back") to the mix. These new versions are a little more laid-back than the originals, and they're a little slicker too. And while that doesn't necessarily suit Lawrence's voice, which has grown a little thinner over the years, that doesn't make Then and Now a bad listen. It's a mellow, mature, comfortable record that finds Lawrence in a warm, reflective mood, and if his fans share his mood, they should find this enjoyable.

If The World Had a Front Porch

Grreat song. People my age (50 ) especially if you grew up the country can identify with the words of the song and its meaning.

Great Album

This is a great album. I was a big fan of Tracy Lawrence in my elementary school days and through high school. track number 3 really hit home with me, being a service member myself for the past 3 years. though a little sad, i would still reccomend this song to anyone who has friends or family that is or was in a combat zone. i stumbled across it while i was driving on my way to work and fell in love with it. Tracy also revisits some of his best songs, such as Time Marches On, Is That A Tear, Lessons Learned, Texas Tornado and my all time favorite, If the Good Die Young. a great buy for any fan of good country music.

A pair of songs with power

I realize "Used to the Pain" is about some lost love, but I happened to hear it for the first time just a few weeks after a three year old friend left this world. I was listening to country radio, and
Billie Dean "Let Them Be Little" played, followed by "Used to the Pain". I keep meaning to give this CD to the boy's mom, but even now, listening to just the 30 second previews of the two songs is still too powerful. I can't tell if she's "getting better, or just Used to the Pain".
