Easily the best vocalist in Country music
You may think that Reba, Martina, or god forbid anyone think that Taylor should even become remotely close to belonging on this list, may be the best vocalists, but once you listen to this song, you will be FLOORED. My breath was literally taken away from this masterclass, impeccable song.
It's the best $1.29 you'll ever spend on iTunes, and I can guarantee anyone of any age that this will be the best 3:53 you've experienced in a long time. This is the most uplifting and powerful song I've ever heard, and Underwood's beyond-humanistic vocal blends immaculately with the perfect strings in the background.
This will win an Oscar. Hands down, the Best Original Song award will go to this song, and Carrie will have every award anyone could have (excluding a Razzie).
There's a place for vocalists like Underwood
Carrie Underwood is no stranger to recording tracks for soundtracks, and "There's a Place for Us" from the film 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader' is another example. The song starts off simple enough, with Underwood's gentle vocals weaving in and out of a simple piano accompaniment, but the composition soon turns to a soaring chorus that fills listeners with a momentary sense of calmness and fulfillment.
Sure, the lyrics are the usual cheesy, inspirational fare ("We can be the kings and queens of anything if we believe / it's written in the stars that shine above"), but this is by design rather than by accident. Considering Hillary Lindsey ("Jesus, Take the Wheel," "So Small") and David Hodges wrote the track, the lyrics are a little bit surprising when thinking of the caliber of their songwriting abilities, but in the end the lyrics fit the theme fairly well. Still, it is Underwood's vocals that breathe true life into "Us," because if this were recorded by anyone else it just would not carry the same weight.
"There's a Place for Us," while not Underwood’s shining moment, is a quality song that will serve its purpose well and will delight listeners of all ages.
