Album Review
Like a fine wine, some things just age with grace and impeccable class, and such is the case with Gino Vannelli. This time around, the Canadian offers up seven new compositions on These Are the Days that are natural extensions of where he left off on 1998's Slow Love. The new songs are focused but relaxed, his aim clearly being his die-hard fans who prefer his trademark adult contemporary/jazz hybrid. But it's the seven tracks that make up the second half of These Are the Days that are a real treat. Digitally remastered with amazing clarity, Vannelli personally oversaw the reconstruction of seven of his most well-known tunes, including the U.S. chart hits "I Just Wanna Stop" and "Living Inside Myself." The results are crisp and bright when compared to some of the greatest-hits compilations recently issued, and makes this a must-have for Vannelli enthusiasts, even if you've already purchased a best-of compilation already.
Customer Reviews
Wow. I downloaded a jackpot! Why isn't GV bigger in the U.S.???
I was first taken by the earlier classics contained on this cd, but after listening to and buying the whole thing, I'm absolutely dumbfounded by how great this new music is. Yeah, I kind of expected some crazy new 'filler', but EACH new track is so unique and they stand on their own merit. I'm listening to it right now as I type, and it's SOOOO good. Right now, The Great Divide seems to be leading the way... then These Are the Days... then Rock Me to Heaven... they're all good. I normally download "onesy, twosies" on iTunes and decided to buy the whole thing since I wanted the 7 new songs which would basically be the same cost. I've NEVER downloaded a group of so many winners by one artist like this one. I honestly can't understand why GV hasn't been more of an icon in the U.S.(?) Well, all I can do is submit this review and spread the word to others wherever I go by playing this music. Absolutely wonderful!!! Thank you GV and iTunes!
These Are the Days
I have to admit that I am a Gino Vannelli fan from the early 80's, but a mix of wonderful melodies and a voice that just never goes away keeps me playing all of us his music, old and new. His newest work (which comprises 7 of 14 tunes on this CD) only verifies what I already knew. This is a voice and music that compares to no other. Heard other Gino Vannelli tunes and liked them? You won't be disappointed. Never heard of the guy? Buy this album and welcome to unique sound and music of Gino Vannelli....but, I warn you, it will only make you want to go back and buy his other CDs as well!
Gold Mine! Touchdown! Jackpot! Yahtzee! WOO HOO!
What a bargain! Had to get the whole thing...this album is worth the trip! I popped this into the system at work, and everybody went nuts! The ladies were melting with I Just Wanna Stop, Right Where I Am, Living Inside Myself and Wild Horses, guys were jammin to It's Only Love, Black Cars and People Gotta Move, and everyone wanted to know how to get it! Like a good salesman, iSaid iTunes! (you can credit my account with my commission, please!) Downside is my girlfriend wont give my iPod back thanks to Gino! (I may have lost her to him as well!)
