iTunes Review

The organic sound of The Roots benefits here from herbal supplements like the guitar and the addition of lyricist Dice Raw. Things Fall Apart works cohesively when the lyrical content steps in sync with the overall theme. The duet with Erykah Badu ("You Got Me") is sweet as its message is strong. The collaboration with Common ("The Love of My Life") is powerful both lyrically and sonically (with Zap Mama fluttering in the background), but most of all psychologically. "Dynamite," "Double Trouble," and "Don't See Us" are all classic gas-pedal-mashed-to-the-floor Roots. Philly's finest always catch flack for not reproducing on record what they do live. This album is their convincing rebuttal.

Big Homage

The beautiful thing about the eclectic career of The Roots is the consistent reinvention the band seems to go through on every new record and Things Fall Apart is no different. Despite this album being a slight departure from the melodic and jazzed-out mainstays of past albums, the soulful essence of the band still comes through in all its funked out glory. With ?uestlove providing the production, The Roots are at the top of their game. Be sure to download 'Act Too (The Love of My Life)' and the Grammy-winning 'You Got Me', arguably the the best songs the band has ever put out to this point.

Top ten in my book

Got to check out "double trouble" and "adrenaline!" which i believe are some of the best tracks in the album. ?uestlove backing up the beats with black thought and crew (w/guest appearence) providing the lyrics, its just amazing how this album just flows through. Raw hip hop at its best...

Hot Music

not that there is a bad roots album in the bunch, but this one takes the cake. the rhymes are air tight. the cameos are lovely and the music is A+. a must have!

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Though popular success has largely eluded the Roots, the Philadelphia group showed the way for live rap, building on Stetsasonic's "hip-hop band" philosophy of the mid-'80s by focusing on live instrumentation at their concerts and in the studio. Though their album works have been inconsistent affairs, more intent...
