Album Review
Paula Cole's songwriting and musical skills sharpened considerably on her second album, This Fire. Occasionally, she flirts a little too closely with Sarah McLachlan territory, but Cole has developed her own, subtly mature style, equally informed by textured electronics, light worldbeat influences, and soul-baring lyrics. "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone" may epitomize the sound of the album, but it only scratches the surface of what This Fire has to offer.

An Excellent Album
Paula Cole's "This Fire" is a great album. With such songs as "Tiger", "Where Have all the Cowboys Gone?", "Me", "I Don't Want to Wait" and "Carmen" is no surpise the Recording Academy nominated this album for Seven Grammy Awards including (Album, Record, Song of the year and Best New Artist)
Passionate and beautiful
Paula Cole is passionate and restrained; hopeful and dark; not easily able to fit into a neat little box. Not as outspoken as Alannis Morrisette, yet bolder than Sarah McLaughlin (thank God!), her songwriting is a tour guide through her own world of angst and redemption. Her vocals ability allows her to move between subtle and over-the-top (but in a good way~). I have personally worn through 2 copies of this disc and see more in my future.
Great voice, sound.
I came across Miss Cole's voice upon listening to a Peter Gabriel live CD in which she sang Kate Bush's part in "Don't give up". Her voice impressed me enough to check out this cd, and found it be a great listen!
