Album Review
Gritty, space rock power trio Perplexa places eight listed selections of an alien and dissonant beauty. A ninth, unlisted track combines neo-tribal rhythms and drone with guitar wails imitative of whale song. Bouncing between instrumentals, the vocals of Jenny Schmid (bass) and the male vocals of Rob Schurgin(guitar) breathe invigorating variety into the programming. Disembodied and slightly mysterious, this album benefits from a hyper-urban style, somber art.
