iTunes Review
Folks familiar with the red dirt Texan twang of Cross Canadian Ragweed may be surprised to hear frontman Cody Canada’s solo project. Those new to the party need not concern themselves with the details because as soon as Canada and company tear into a roots-rocking cover of Randy Crouch’s “Face On Mars,” it’s evident that there’s really something here for everyone. Gary Scruggs and Kevin Welch’s “True Love Never Dies” gets reinterpreted with plenty of funky clavinet accompanied by a grinding Hammond B3 organ before returning to those red-dirt tones on a simmering take of Leon Russell’s “Home Sweet Oklahoma.” Mike Shannon’s “Long Way to Nowhere” gets the early-‘90s alt-country treatment, sounding like a toned-down Uncle Tupelo, while the mellow rhythms and cool grooves of J.J. Cale’s “If You’re Ever In Oklahoma" are kept well intact, as guitarist Seth James picks some bluesy leads that old Slowhand would approve.

Real Music
To the person who said they were disappointed because it didn't sound like Ragweed. It's not supposed to. It's a new band, a new sound.
Great album.
Time to move on
This album is actually a Oklahoma Tribute record, showcasing the talents of many different songwriters from the Ok area. Ragweed planned on recording this, but it never happened. So now Cody and Jeremy have new bandmates and the result is this album, which I think is Great! True it's not CCR, but that is in the past, and it's time to move on. I will forever cherish the old CCR albums though, but I am looking forward to hearing some original material from these guys as well.
Years in the Making.
I really did think about if i had any reason to rate this at four stars instead of five and after listening to it at least seven times since it arrived in the mail today from Lone Star Music i can't help but go with five. For one thing, it sounds fantastic, it has a warm almost analog sound, and i am planning on purchasing the vinyl copy as well. The musicianship is top notch, i particularly love drummer David Bowen's work on this. If you are unfamiliar with these songs, they are covers, The Departed's versions of songs that Cody and maybe band members Steve Littleton and Jeremy Plato and maybe even David Bowen and guitarist singer/songwriter Seth James as well were influenced by. These are all songs written and performed at one time by artists from Oklahoma like Tom Skinner, Kevin Welch, Randy Crouch, Bob Childers and more and it's really a lesson in the history and continuation of Red Dirt music. There isn't a mediocre song on the album, they were all carefully chosen and appreciated by Cody and Cody and the band show obvious passion in being able to come through with this project that they have been wanting to do a long time. This is a tribute to the roots of the what, when and where of Red Dirt music. Time to face the fact that Cross Canadian Ragweed is done and the Departed have a rejuvinated life of their own hopefully for years to come.
