Right up front, you need to know that this is one outstanding album of Smooth Jazz sax! Barbados native, Boston-based Elan Trotman has scored big with his 4th release, not only in quality but also in quantity, with 15 songs on this CD. That’s a whole lot of absolutely amazing performances… covering ballads, old school/R&B, Hip-Hop, funk, and even techno-dance. He writes lyrical melodies (always a key ingredient for hit material), totally delivers the goods performance and production-wise, and in my opinion should skyrocket to the top of the charts with this one. He also covers two major hits on THIS TIME AROUND… Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day,” given just a bit faster, more energetic treatment than the original… and Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing,” creating a really cool techno-dance vibe. Bottom line: Elan Trotman’s THIS TIME AROUND is a solid “must-have” collection of memorable tunes! ~SCOTT O'BRIEN
