Album Review

The Fold are the freshly scrubbed face of emo, a completely mainstream and radio-ready pop/rock band outfitted with just enough of the signifiers of a currently salable subculture to give the quartet a hint of street cred. This Too Shall Pass is the 2006 equivalent of the pseudo-psychedelic bands MGM tried to hype into "the Bosstown Sound" in 1968, a prepackaged attempt to make Boston the next great freak city after San Francisco, or of those early-'80s hard rock bands who dressed up in new wave finery in a bid to get onto MTV. In case that sounds too harsh, it must be said that This Too Shall Pass isn't a bad record at all; indeed, it's filled with some extremely catchy tunes, particularly the soaring opener, "Gravity," and the unapologetically poppy "The Title Track," even if the album sounds entirely stage-managed and predetermined.

Customer Reviews

Thank you

Um..so this review is more about your Cd Secrets Keep You Sick lol but its not up here soo..this had to do. Im not here to say how much i love you guys (sorry :/); idk you that well. But the emotion you can feel when just listening to your music is one of the most amazing things. Every one of yours songs is tied to a memory i have from my own life. Idk how you guys did it without ever meeting me but, you spoke my thoughts emotions and regrets all in one cd and when i listen to each, i refeel the pain love and joy every time. Thats what music..is for. To finally have good christian music thats deep and not...weird is such a relief and i just have to thank you guys for getting together and making something actually worth while to listen too. You've done more than just produce a cd. Thanks

-Mary

Great Value

For $7.99, this reissue with the four bonus tracks is a great value, although I have not compared prices of this album among other vendors. This CD showcases the range of The Fold's music and also contains tracks that have different sounds due to different producers (or maybe mixers, I am not sure). If you like Relient K, you might also like the track "I Believe You" featuring Matt Thiessen. In my opinion, this is the best The Fold album for its overall depth and quality, although their later albums contain some of my favorite songs as well.

Great

I love your songs

Biography

Formed: 2002 in Chicago, IL

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s

Chicago pop/punk outfit Showoff released one album on Maverick and recorded (but never issued) a second before three-fourths of its members (everyone but the singer) decided to pack their bags in 2002. Those three subsequently started the Fold together, and though that initial lineup didn't last, the name stuck. By the time the Fold had signed with Tooth & Nail Records in March 2005, it comprised sole Showoff alum Daniel Castady (who had switched out his Showoff drums to man lead vocals and guitar),...
