iTunes Review
Portland, Oregon’s Horse Feathers is essentially the work of singer-songwriter Jason Ringle. His main foil, multi-instrumentalist Peter Broderick, has departed but Thistled Spring sounds every bit as atmospheric as House With No Home with multi-instrumentalist Sam Cooper taking Broderick’s spot in the line-up and violinist Nathan Crockett and cellist Catherine Odell coloring these songs with their own baroque touches. From the first gentle stirrings of the title track, it’s apparent that Ringle is moving from the winter scenes of House and moving towards the soothing thaw and emerging warmth that comes with the magic of spring. “Starving Robins” is a swaying acoustic melody worthy of Simon & Garfunkel. “Cascades” is a piece that softly tinkles among the raindrops of a spring rain with harmonies and orchestration that create a sweet calm. “As a Ghost” walks a country lane with hints of country and British folk as fiddle and piano meet in the countryside. Thistled Spring is quite beautiful and contemplative with a leisurely pace that befits life in the country.
Customer Reviews
Thistled Spring
Simply brilliant, every song, I am in love with this band.
A Masterpiece through and through.
Horse Feathers is such a talented group. Their first two albums were fantastic but this one (only on two listens so far) is a masterpeice. Every second is filled with beautiful, heartfelt music. Just buy it, even if you've never heard of them.
On repeat
Wow - as someone else said, Horse Feathers is a highly talented group whose first two albums were excellent. I saw them on some video clips of a session they did at SXSW and they previewed some of their new album so I couldn't wait for this to come out. Well, Thistled Spring is on another level and clearly shows the group maturing in to a rich, mellow, unique sound. After one day of owning it, I've already listened through it 6 times over and it just continues to get better and better. Can't recommend this enough.
