iTunes Review

“Been Caught Stealing,” Jane’s Addiction’s biggest mainstream hit, introduced many to the California band’s countercultural philosophy: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, in this case via shoplifting. It’s hilarious, and not just because of the video, with its turkey-swiping crossdresser. As Up From the Catacombs demonstrates, JA’s blend of metal guitars (Dave Navarro), punk attitude, and the general embrace of a slightly blurry “alternative” wasn’t always so bright. Collecting tracks from four studio LPs and a revamped “Jane Says” from the Kettle Whistle grab bag, the set captures many of Perry Farrell’s lyrical brainstorms matched with what was at its best a very powerful sonic blend. “Had a Dad” bemoans life under an apparently empty sky, while “Ted, Just Admit It” is Farrell’s overblown statement on a violent society. (“Ted” is Bundy, the serial killer who was still awaiting execution when the song was recorded.) Catacombs draws largely on a pre-Nevermind moment, but finds the quartet’s ethos still exciting. Turn it up.

NIN/JA 2009 Tour

by vespertine13

This album rocks on so many levels and I definitely am glad I ordered it. First selling point to me was the 15-song track list - it's incredible and I love having all the tracks on one album. I recently went to two of the NIN/JA shows here in Calfornia (Irvine, Santa Barbara) and they played every song on this album, so now I associate this album with those shows - amazing!

What Happened to True Nature?

by Well, wouldn't you like to know.

I love the song "True Nature". Since this is the best of they should have this song on here, but they don't and that is a little disappointing. It's number 9 on the top songs for Jane's Addiction and it looks like all the top 15 songs are on here, according to the top-song list, except for "True Nature". Think about it. If you agree click yes!
