Ground Breaking
An album like this doesn't come around once a year. An album like this comes around once a decade... maybe. This album will be written in the history books of music, however, the music audience needs to catch up first.
When a piece of musical art so ground breaking is first released most people hate it or reject it because they don't get it. This piece of art is progressive yet tangible. It's artistic and singable. Complicated and memorable.
Their live show is fantastic. This album is in a different realm. I've been to more Roster McCabe shows than I can count. Over the last 3 years probably 50+. I know their music. I loved The Rhythm / The Elements when it came out for what it was. But that was an amateur effort by a young band. This is a game changing accomplishment by a professional, versed, weathered, mature group of musicians.
I could go song by song, note by note, chord by chord, lyric by lyric and explain why this album is more important for music's sake than every other album that was released this year or last or the year before that. But I don't need to. Just get this and appreciate it and you'll be able to do it for me.
If I don't sound like a music snob yet: LISTEN TO THIS WITH HEADPHONES. You can't fully appreciate the sonic brilliance unless you have a pair of good headphones.
Peace, Love, and Roster McCabe
Best of Both Worlds
Often bands in the Jam genre cannot successfully translate their live sets in the studio setting, but Roster McCabe finds a balance between long, meticulous live shows and recorded concision. Even though these guys have been relentlessly touring over the past year, they still have the energy to pull all the stops in the studio. While they have practiced these songs to perfection in their live sets, Roster McCabe takes it a step further and turns these songs into a whole new, ferocious creature of courage. Even though most jam bands must make sacrifices for records, this album goes beyond their live shows by adding deep layers of instrumentation while still retaining the same energy that they display on stage. In fact, one of the most beautiful parts of this album is how concise it is. This album will literally punch you in the face and leave you asking for more. I can honestly say that every song and every note has been well thought out to serves the single purpose of being great. There is absolutely no fluff here. Most followers will at first be turned off by the lack of extended solos, but that is not to say that there isn’t merit in this decision. This allows for the songs to really breathe and bloom live. This also gives them the opportunity to not be pigeon holed into playing these songs in the same format over and over again. Roster McCabe is an ever growing and changing band and you can expect them to be pulling a few tricks out of their sleeve next time you see them. Until that time, you can sit down and enjoy this artistic piece that is dripping with passionate blood and hard work that was made for us, the ever blood sucking fans of all music that is good and true.
Great Album, but it still doesn't do justice...
Every song is solid, but after seeing these guys the album just doesnt do justice compared to the outstanding live performance they put on. I recommend grabbing live at the cabooze as well to hear the scope of this band. Overall though, much better than almost everything you hear out in radio. If Dave Matthews Band and Steely Dan had a child, I think you get Roster McCabe. With that said, you should all make this purchase.
