3rd album of 2006 from Midnite?
Definitely not the strongest of midnite's recordings from 2006, this one is mostly programmed beats and synth and keyboard embellishments. Vaughn's lyrics are as deep as ever, and really they are the centerpiece of the album. There are a few great songs "Viybz", "BC", "Beta Ment", and "Falla Gad", but my new fav (I've had it since May) is the title track "Thru & True" - check that one out, really smooth, almost R&B but still deep electro-roots with vox from one of the greatest vocalists to come out of reggae. Also, it is a collaboration between Midnite and Ras-L not Midnite and Benjamin Vaughn (the two are more or less synonymous now).
Digital Roots Born
Though this is a digitally produced album, Thru and True hits the mark as a strong roots reggae album with simple syncopation and strong bass rhythms. One of my favorites. Vaughn Benjamin and Ras L don't miss with this one.
