Metal at it's finest!

Thunder In The East is an all around powerhouse of blistering guitar solos and mega crunchy riffs from Japanese guitar hero Akira Takasaki. The songs range from great (Crazy Nights, We Could Be Together) to downright epic (Lines Are Down, Heavy Chains)and the album maintains a steady pace from beginning to end.

If you are a guitarist or just a fan of the sleek version of 80's metal that had more substance than style, this album is for you.

Kiss the rings on Akira Takasaki's fingers ... none of us are worthy!!!

Yes, 80's metal is an acquired taste. Yes, Loudness's translation from Japanese to English means the lyrics are more conceptual as opposed to a literal translation. BUT... if you can get past these small speed bumps (and they are microscopic, in my opinion), I promise that you will be rewarded with a tight, 80's metal band with some of the best guitar work you'll ever hear. Unlike his peers in the mid 80's (okay, Yngwie), Akira Takasaki has the intuition and technical skill required to construct and build a solo in a way that leaves you believing that the song as you just heard it could not be written any other way. The solo just fits. It makes sense. It's perfect. I like and respect guitarists like Malmsteen but there were times in Yngwie's early career where the song and the solo seemed like they were coming from different parts of the universe. ("What just happened there? Was that part of the song? Impressive but HUH?") Not the case with Takasaki. This guitarist knows when to restrain himself, he knows when to be melodic and also knows when to stomp it down and that, my friends, is a beautiful thing. In my opinion, the entire album should be listened to from start to finish but... if that's too much of a commitment, I would suggest: "Heavy Chains", "The Lines Are Down" and "Run for Your Life". The album Lightning Strikes won't let you down either. Enjoy!

Good stuff

By the time they were introduced to the West by 1985's Thunder in the East album, Japan's Loudness had arguably already hit their peak. Their previous effort, Disillusion, was the fourth chart-topping release in their homeland, not to mention a critical triumph among members of the European press. But when faced with a contingency plan to conquer America, Loudness were gradually forced to alter their sound by...
