this reggae rocks
i have purchased all 4 records in this reggae rocks series, as i am a true fan of both genres of music. i usually judge a good reggae cover by its ability to interpret a song in a way that is fun and refreshing. The Tide is High is a records that accomplishes just that. This album contains some of the greatest names in the world of reggae music including Steel Pulse, Toots and the Maytels, Ken Boothe, Judy Mowatt, The Abyssinians, Gregory Isaacs. etc. under the supervision of super producer Henry K, who has perfected the art of "reggae covers" since his groundbreaking "Fire on the Mountain" reggae Grateful Dead tribute. Although some of the other cds(The Beatles,Stones,Dylan) in this "Reggae Rocks"series capture the depth and spiritual connection of the 2 genres, this a feel good record, that connect to people of all ages. And while some hardcore reggae conniseurs may balk at some of reggae's greatest songwriters singing cover versions, i feel that each track captures the essence of the singer, and you gat a great chance to experience what makes them great. Standout songs include Sugar Minotts uplifting "Feeling Groovy" Steel Pulses' "We can work it out" Edi Fitzroys "Hotel California" and Toots' "Heard it through the Grapevine" to name a few.
Great Reggae Album
this album is a blast to listen to. i love all the reggae cover albums and this a great starting point as it some of the beatles, stones, and dylan songs from the othr reggae rocks albums. i had this on cd a wile back and now its great to find it here and download it. every song is good. high quality stuff.
one of the best cover albums ever
The Tide is High is undoubtedly one of the best reggae cover cd's. It contains all the elements of a fantastic record. Great Songs being covered by great artistes with outstanding production. My opinion is that these Reggae Rock Tributes are more designed to appeal to rock and roll fans that like reggae. Although reggae fans will love the production on this album too. Feeling Groovy is terriffic. Sara Smile sounds like a pop reggae hit sung by 90's Icons Big Mountain. D'yer MAker, Zepplins reggae inspired track takes on a whole new meaning. All and all this CD is done with appreciation and dedication to the original rock songs it covers, and the care and effort is definately appreciated by this rock and reggae fanatic. One Love.
