iTunes Review

Keith Urban’s fifth studio album resonates with optimism, hope, wisdom, romance, and of course fun. Defying Gravity is an apt title for a truly uplifting album that blends catchy country-pop with barbed power pop, sounding inadvertently rooted in early Tom Petty and Dwight Twilley recordings. “Kiss a Girl” is a triumphantly anthemic insta-hit musing on the kind of youthful exuberance found in the charge of a first kiss. Similarly, “Sweet Thing” is a summery feel-good number that wonderfully contrasts Edgy (think U2) guitars with front porch banjos. Of course it wouldn’t be a proper Keith Urban album without amorous power ballads and “’Til Summer Comes Around” delivers in spades with vividly painted imagery of fleeting and impassioned moments set to hot nights at the beach boardwalk. He gives Radney Foster’s “I’m In” a trademark Urban sound to play like something that could have been on 2006’s Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing. The moving “Thank You” is a sweet serenade to his wife Nicole Kidman that touches on her helping him battle and defeat his addiction.

Bonus Track!...."Call My Name"

I contacted iTunes yesterday about the missing bonus track and they said we should expect to get an email from them by April 20th with a code for the song. I just wanted to pass this infomation along to everyone. ^_^
Thanks again iTunes for all the help!

Love the album by the way!! Stand out tracks: "'Til Summer Comes Around," "My Heart Is Open," and "Only You Can Love Me This Way"

The ever changing sound of Keith Urban

Man! This record is excellent. Country music is ever changing and Keith does an excellent job keeping up. From the feel good "Sweet Thing" to the soft-rock "My Heart is Open", Keith manages to keep his signature sound, vibe and feel, but brings a fresh, new and exciting attitude to "Defying Gravity". While his last record, "LPATWCT" was on the more serious side, this release is fun, upbeat and just downright awesome to listen to. My favorite track has to be "I'm In" because it's traditional Keith bringing the melody and staying familiar to the fans. The final cut, "Thank You" is an ode to his love, Nicole Kidman, and can bring anyone to thier feet and let them feel what Keith is feeling, and that my friends, is the wonder of music. Bravo Keith, I LOVE this record.

Defying Gravity-Be Willing To Be Brave And You Can Defy Gravity!! Beautifully Crafted Album..

It is obvious from the first song on Defying Gravity, that Keith Urban and the people he works with, worked exceptionally hard making this album. And this is a true album. There is a lovely flow from the first song to the last. Most of the songs on this album were either written or co-written by Keith. And Keith has a great feel for finding exceptional songs written by other people, case in point "I'm In" written by Radney Foster. I am in awe of Keith's vocal performance on every song. His voice is pure with that beautiful texture that brings out so much emotion from every lyic. In Defying Gravity, Keith once again exhibits something that I have come to think of as one of his trademarks. There is a brilliant layering of instruments in each song. I hear a ganjo or banjo often. I think the theme of most of the songs on this album will touch many, many people's hearts. You are meant to have love in your life. And even if you have been hurt by love in the past, if you can be willing to be brave to try to love again, you could quite possibly find yourself "Defying Gravity". Of course, we can hear Keith's own joy in each song and that is beautiful, but I think in a broader sense, the theme that weaves it's way through the songs on this album will resonate with hearts in a great many of us. Keith the passion, focus, love, time, and dedication you put into this album is extremely evident. This is a fabulous album!

Biography

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Born in New Zealand, country artist Keith Urban learned to play guitar as a six-year-old in Australia, after a young woman asked to place an ad in his dad's shop window offering guitar lessons. His parents made a deal with her, offering their advertisement in exchange for lessons for their young son. The boy demonstrated natural ability, and by the time he was eight, Urban was winning local talent shows. He also involved himself with a youth acting company...
