iTunes Review

With absolutely no strain, Smokey Robinson can be both timeless and contemporary. Time Flies When You’re Having Fun alters nothing from Robinson’s classic formula, and yet it sounds totally fresh. Part of this comes from Smokey’s insistence on creative control. Rather than hook up with a younger producer — as many singers do in the latter stage of their career — Robinson wrote, produced and arranged Time Flies himself. His longstanding standards of quality are evident on “Time Flies,” “Please Don’t Take Your Love From Me,” “That Place” and “Satisfy You,” which are as warm and naturalistic and sensuous as anything from 1975’s A Quiet Storm. It’s not uncommon for a singer of his age to turn maudlin and sexless, but instead Smokey gives us “Whatcha Gonna Do,” a throbbing, simmering slow jam that should give pause to male singers half his age. After 50 astonishing years Smokey’s immortal falsetto is undiminished, and it still has the power to unnerve and entice a listener. To hear him interpret “Don’t Know Why”— which was played nearly to death after Norah Jones recorded it — is to hear the song for the first time.

Smoke's Back!!!

Smokey Robinson can teach a listen or two to the young singers of today. It's not about doing what's popular or in fashion but truly singing from your heart and soul. No engineering tricks for imperfections in your voice here. Smokey's velvety smooth vocals instantly relax and soothe the soul, making you want to be closer to that special someone. There's something on this album for everyone, including a remake from the Jackson Five and definite tribute to Micheal Jackson and his brothers. The only thing I can ask of Smokey is to not take so long to release your next album because the music business really needs you now, more than ever. Peace be with you my brother.

Awesome

Smokey Robinson is an amazing artist and always has been, and now he's back with this amazing album, including a cover of Norah Jones' hit song "Don't Know Why." I'm so glad we still have artists like him in today's music industry, who need only their pure voices, and no auto-tune or computerized vocals, to sound good. You should definitely get this :)

Smokey is da King!

This is the best new CD I've gotten in a long long time..... I keep listening to it over and over......It takes me back to when buying a new record was an exiting experience. When you put it on it starts by setting a euphoric mood with "Time Flies" and then builds from there.. The whole CD is like a perfectly orchestrated symphony.....from beginning to end... A true classic! A must have for any serious music fan!

If you're looking for the all-time number one purveyor of mainstream romantic soul, Smokey Robinson may well be the man, in the face of some towering competition. With the Miracles in the 1960s, he paced dozens of tuneful Motown hits with his beautiful high tenor. As a solo performer from the 1970s onward, he was one of the staples of urban contemporary music. But his singing gifts, as notable as they are, comprise only one of his hats: he's also one of pop's best and most prolific songwriters. As...
