These guys belong on Billboard's Top 10
Ippazzi's sophomore album is a giant leap forward from their debut, bringing tighter vocals and stronger musicianship. They have simultaneously refined their style while increasing musical diversity (incorporating elements of blues, rock, hip hop, folk, jazz). This diversity is directly attributable to the varying backgrounds of the group's members, who range in age, musical training, ethnic background and overall personality. Despite these differences, these musicians share a deep connection with each other that is thickly evident in their music, inevitably inviting you in to join the ride. There is a song here for every mood, every emotion, every playlist. Its a wonderful total package that I'm proud to have in my collection.
While I recommend the whole album, stand out tracks include
You Say: imagine your favorite rock ballad, complete with guitar solo (an element regrettably absent from today's pop music), performed by John Mayer, featuring Jay-Z. And then make it 10 times hotter. EPIC!
Out in the Middle: An emotional, passionate and rather direct plea to a lost lover, told through a folksy and jazzy voice. Excellent bass and guitar work on this track.
To Another Place: One of the most upbeat songs I've heard in a very long time. Seriously people, when was the last time you heard something you'd call "feel good" music? For those days when you are just hating the world, let this track play, and let those bad feelings drain away.
diverse, solid album
This is a great find. Really nice song writing and tasteful playing from this band. There are many idiosyncrasies in the songs and a satisfying depth of sound. It's nice to hear an indie band that can actually sing, play, and write interesting music without trying to be pretentious. Well done!
These fools get down...
The two lead singers are like Hall and Oats for gen x and gen y. You say is my current favorite song. It's not just about vocals (which they have plenty of), or their ability to play (which they can), it's about depth and originality, it's about soul and sophistication!
Virtually every genre of popular music is represented on this album, its a blessing and sadly a curse. The only reason you may not have heard of Ippazzi is because people fear what they can't label and place. Buy this cd and write your own 5 star review!
