One of the Most Provocative Insightful Anti-War Song
Unlike other antiwar songs Roger Waters uses this anecdote to convey his feelings towards the war in the Middle East. Though many have taken this song out of context and said it was anti-Israeli, listeners of this song need to see it for its content and purpose not for its choice in anecdote. If anything is to be taken from this well-writen epic song, it is the fact that our own point of views cause us to follow and pay a blinds eye to what is going on (things that we have little to no control over), we must then judge what we chose not to see with our moral values and then create our own point of view. Our fears in the unknown is what causes our hatreds, our racism, and our blind approval to the government for the War. We must overcome this and see the human behind each person we kill and dont kill in the Middle East. Throughout Water's musical career, much has been said to show the cons of war (the Wall, the Final Cut, etc.) but this song by far is the most straight-to-it antiwar theme.
Roger has always been Roger
I find it humorous that some people are offended by Roger's political statements on this album. Roger has always been like this. If you gave this a one star because of the political message then you can head right over to Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall and give those albums one star as well. The songs are very good, just tone down the background singers a bit.
Leaving Beirut an amazing song
I saw him in Philly 6/1/07. When he did this song, I was immediately hooked. It's only been a few days removed since I experiences the Floyd Experience live for the first time and I can truely say this song has been engraved in my head. I am glad to have found this masterpeice here on iTunes so that I may enjoy it on a regular basis. Waters is a genius and I am thrilled to have seen the master at work.
