hip-hop at its finest

After my first listen to Common Market's eponymous debut, I knew that RA Scion and Sabzi were a hip-hop duo to be reckoned with. The Black Patch War EP, which came out a couple months back, was unreal...and I've been playin' those 7 tracks on repeat ever since its release. And now, we're blessed with the full-length Tobacco Road. RA's prowess as a lyricist is unparalleled, and when one hears his intelligent rhymes over Sabzi's (also DJ/Producer of Blue Scholars) fresh beats, you can't help but think that this is how hip-hop was meant to sound. Hands down, Sabzi is producing some of the hottest beats in the game today; coupled with RA's ability to passionately tell a story and convey a message through his smooth cadence and alliteration, Common Market has gotten it right. In the words of Sum 41, this album truly is 'all killer, no filler.' It's real refreshing to hear a couple of guys really puttin' their heart into the music. Buy this album, you won't regret it. Note: CM is also mad legit Live.

And so it begins

Time after time, artists forged from the history of hip-hop's roots step forward and proclaim their place on the pedestal. This is what true hip-hop has grown to be throughout its many transformations and it must be understood that the art of story-telling has morphed into a much more evolved and musical intimacy. Common Market is one of many groups that are now spearheading true-school hip-hop and promoting its influence to the youth. Their albums promote, converse, cry, motivate, and most of all empower their listeners, their fans, to find themselves throughout the moody and inspirational background they provide. This album cannot dissapoint the listener; it is finely crafted and is perfect in its form. For those that have doubted and have ill words to say, I respond with this: it is time you turn of your radio and TV and search for something of that you can understand as truth. Hip-hop is not dead, its pushing the dry earth that covers its coffin lid from it and ready to walk again amongnst those that miss it so much. Move away from Nas and 106th and Park and find yourself without others telling you whats nice. For those of you that took the time to read, I encourage you to purchase this album without hesitance, for it is gold in its purest form. PCE, LVE.

Great Album!

This another classic sea-town hip hop album. Ra Scion comes with amazing lyricism. He really stepped it up compared to the last album. And to match, Sabzilla crafted beautiful yet hard knockin beats. My favorites are "Trouble Is", "Gol'Dust", "Winter Takes All", "Certitude", and "Tobacco Road", but almost every song on this album is worthy of 5 stars. Great work Common Market!

Entering the hip-hop arena in an almost-forgotten fashion, the MC-and-the-DJ tag team Common Market has been pegged as leaders of Seattle's new-school rap movement. MC RA Scion and DJ Sabzi have received rave reviews locally, landing in the Seattle Times' artists-to-watch list in 2006, appearing on the front cover of Sound Seattle magazine's September 2006 issue, and obtaining the personal endorsement of hip-hop pioneer KRS-One as an exceptional up-and-coming group.
