Hallelujah!
I discovered Chuck Allen Floyd last year at a local music cafe, and fell in love with his work. Chuck is a talented writer and has a great tone of voice. I especially love 'I Ain't No Cowboy" and "Good Morning Houston" is very touching. If you like some fresh country music, Tonight an Angel Fell is sure to please.
Breath of fresh air
Chuck is "real country", and grew up in the red dirt of Oklahoma rather than some manufactured poser created by a producer in a recording studio. The heartbreak behind some of the songs is as real as the honky tonk refrain in the steel guitar.
Definitely Not Nashville
Buy this album now and when Chuck Allen Floyd is a household name you will be the one telling everyone "I told you so." He's that good. Thoughtful verses with real substance, intelligence and depth are followed by choruses filled with one huge hook after another in this album of all original music written by Floyd. 'Good Morning Houston', 'Stay With Me', and 'She's Gettin' Even' pound out 'stay in your head forever' hooks that you'll be singing after the first listen. 'I'm Not That Drunk Yet' and 'Two Words' showcase Floyd's lyrical genius and honest humor that will have you smiling every time. There are beautiful ballads ('I Ain't No Cowboy', 'Tonight an Angel Fell') and a rocking anthem for all those struggling musicians hoping for the big break ('Livin' Like Rock Stars'). 'She's Gone and She's Never Comin' Back' starts out like a heartbreaker but sneaks up on you in the first chorus when you realize that the song is actually celebrating the end of a relationship rather than lamenting it. There's even a live totally acoustic old time western swing for the closing track that true country western fans will love. All in all its the smartest country album I've heard in years and Floyd is one of the best songwriters out there today. Get it now!!
