Album Review

Alison Krauss may have recorded Too Late to Cry when she was only 14 years old, but her sound was already well developed and astonishingly accomplished. Throughout the album, she demonstrates a mastery of bluegrass, singing and playing with a distinctive grace. It's an impressive debut, but it would pale in comparison to the albums that followed.

A good start for Krauss

I have been listening to Alison Krauss for more than 6 years, and have enjoyed all of her music. Her voice is just incredible that I can't believe I am giving this only 3 stars. I checked "Too Late to Cry" out of the library this year and listened to it. It seems as though it took her some time (of course) to develop her own style, and in this album she hadn't gotten there. Her pronunciation of words is over the top--almost like she's trying to sound "country." This is not found in her later albums. Also the recording quality isn't that great. Nevertheless, her voice is crystal clear--it amazes me what she does with it in this album--and my favorites are Too Late to Cry, Song for Life and Don't Follow Me. I suggest to listen to it, but if you really want to hear her at her bluegrass best, try one when she is a little bit older.

Too late to cry review

There is such accomplishment in this album by a 14 year old that I don't believe we have seen since. Alison Krauss' voice and instumentals are top notch to any standard and amazing for such an early start. This album's song choices are all grown up and touching, sang with a maturity and sencerity that is dumbfounding. Highlights on the album are Song for Life, Gentle River and Sleep On.

Too Late to Cry

This is great Alison Krauss and her bluegrassy finest. Her fiddling is clean and tight and brilliant, her vocals are youthful and soulful at the same time and her band speaks for itself.

Alison Krauss helped bring bluegrass to a new audience in the '90s. Blending bluegrass with folk, Krauss was instantly acclaimed from the start of her career, but it wasn't until her platinum-selling 1995 compilation Now That I've Found You that she became a mainstream star. Between her 1987 debut Too Late to Cry and Now That I've Found You, she matured from a child prodigy to a versatile,...
