Finally this is up on itunes
This is my second favorite album of Jed's. 21st century American is his best I think (can be found on his website) though I am very fond of his "Singles of the Month" Cds and the demos floating around that are a bit more raw. Anyway, this is his cleanest sounding album. He cleans up real nice in the stu stu studio. Check out screech Owl, The Blood in my Brain has been Cursed, or Twilight's Yurquoise Delight. For that matter check out Jed's old rawk band The Gravel Pit. Their stuff is hot too. Jed's got a very rare talent.
Great music, great singing, great playing, great words.
I really enjoy this whole CD. There are some songs that sound like 30's or 40's pop tunes and some Stones-sounding groovy tunes, but it all seems to gel. Most of the recordings are very simple voice-organ-guitar-drums with little or no extras, except for a couple songs with nice sax. The lyrics seem thematic, with bird names popping up all over the place and a lot of references to the Star-Spangled Banner (really). And they seem to be mostly about unrequited love and various kinds of death (torch songs and swan songs?) And what a voice! I also enjoy his other CDs '21st Century American' and 'Bloodsucker Blues'.
