At Times Euphoric
OK, full disclosure - i worked on this record, but i did not work on any of the sessions with Michelle. I simply did some overdubs, & mixing.
I just listened to the whole record for the first time, in a long time. Michelle's writing & singing are so personal that it feels like an intimate conversation at times & transforms sophisticated pop into something more. Grant Tye's combination of modulated guitars & soulful soloing lift the arrangements up & far above singer/songwriter accompaniment. The attention to detail & arranging in the backing vocals brings a euphoric sense of enlightenment and hope rather than sappy manipulation. Some songs are very slick & others have a "live sesson" feel. This is a good contrast when listening to the record as a whole.
I have no interest in comparing Michelle to anyone, but in the spirit of trying to get someone to listen - think Amiee Mann, Sarah Mclachlan, Sheryl Crow, & (dare i say it) Joni Mitchell.
Michelle, I love your record!
