Dank. Covered in bugs and mold. Rusty to the spine.

It’s an album that knows exactly what it’s trying to be: the most convoluted, screwed up, junky mess of sound you’ll ever hear. Without any hesitation, I can say that is definitely something you either love or hate. Me? I love it. I want to snuggle it violently. I’m going to eat it. It makes me puke with delight. It’s my favorite album of 2009 thus far, and I think Daft Punk is the only remaining artist that could steal such a title.

Better than Turning Dragon

I've been listening to Chris Clark before he dropped his first name and went by just Clark. This new effort may be one of his best. Turning Dragon, although not bad by any means never really grabbed me in, and occasionally fell into being too repetitive. Chris obviously been hard at work, as this album provides a fresh new style with lots of glitchy and mangled madness to keep it interesting throughout the entire album. My favs are Growl's Garden, Rainbow Voodoo, Totem Crackerjack, and Suns of Temper. But the whole album is really solid. If you're a fan of Turning Dragon, or even his older works definitely check this one out.

Voice

It is interesting to watch an artist develop his voice over the years. His trademark for me is how he blends all the sounds together into this morphing mass.

He uses the Dorian mode a lot in his melodies and he commands it in such a way that his music has this ferocious, yet, some how noble sonority.

And speaking of voices, he edits his voice and his vocal samples in a way I haven't really heard. From morphing it through vocoders to modulating it with LFOs, Clark definitely has a fresh approach to vocals.

I haven't listened to it many times, but i have been analyzing every second, and it is all very rich- you can hear the attention to the small stuff.

I went driving past a crowded movie theatre blasting "rainbow voodoo" with the windows down and my bother and friend in the car, all of us maniaclly writhing to the music at the detriment of any pedestrians unortunate enough to get in our way.
