Album Review

Ariane Moffatt has built a career based on the sweetness of her voice and the novelty of her compositions. In the U.S., she's certainly less well known (though an appearance on a 2005 Putumayo compilation brought her a bit of recognition), but could be fit into the market of highly capable female singer/songwriters with a bit of novelty and quirk to their sounds. Moffatt can tinkle like Feist; she can croon like Sara Bareilles; she can put together a loping beat that simultaneously comes across as both stylishly effortless and highly crafted. Moffatt is vocally strolling and strutting, not just walking. There's a fairly wide stylistic range available here, from softer, more standard-format ballads to an electro-thump title track that uses a whisper and something close to a Rachid Taha motive to clear some surprising territory. Moffatt earned her keep on the Canadian charts with this one.

C'est Magnifique!

Ariane Moffatt's third studio album, "Tous les sens" is a force of smart, engaging, pop music. Her influences are clear and well-integrated, if occasionally disparate. From electronic (most notably seen on both 'Jeudi, 17 mai') to hip-hop (on the album's title track) to a folkier sound reminiscent of fellow Canadian chanteuse Feist (on 'Briser un coeur' and 'Reverbére'), Moffatt covers most musical ground. A notable track is the slow building, African-inspired 'Éternel instant présent,' which begins with the tinkering of an old-fashioned music box. Here, Moffatt's inspirations merge to produce a subtle but strong display of Moffatt's best musical assets - her ear for rhythm and her uncanny and breathtaking knack for well-timed, poignant vocalization. In spite of the fact that the album's end drags a bit, it is all in all, a winner. The American music scene needs more like Miss Moffatt. I'm thrilled that iTunes has finally included Moffatt's music in it's U.S. store.

Arianne a son meilleur

Elle inove une fois de plus avec son style allumant!!! Excellent!

Tout les sens

I really like this album and enjoy all the songs, especially Réverbère. there is another song about coming back to Montréal, which I really enojoy as well. I have to say that I am from Montréal and although I live in the US now for many years, still really enjoy listening to music from artists from home. Glad to see I can find some on ITunes.
