iTunes Review

Delta Spirit’s Ode to Sunshine swirls blue-eyed soul, bluesy folk, and a garage rock ethos into a rollicking mass of jangly guitars, percussive piano, and pounding drums. The songs are well-paced and cleverly constructed, and despite some melancholy moments, there’s an overwhelming feeling of joy and catharsis that comes across clearly on this impressive, and aptly titled, full-length debut. Much of the album’s appeal comes from the great piano work and the stuttering drums that drive these songs forward. The other magic ingredient is lead vocalist Matt Vasquez, who sings like his soul depends on it as the band rumbles along behind him. His voice commands immediate attention and he’s ably supported by some sunny vocal harmonies. There’s also subtle use of harmonica, banjo, and horns on several of the songs that helps lend a lovable raggedness to the recording and allows the band to sound loose but never sloppy. This is an excellent first effort by a band with a future.

a whole album

These guys didnt just write a couple of singles with some filler and slap it together and call it an album. These guys made an album in its entirety right here. Every song on here is good and fits with the others. Each song flows into the other and is pure bliss for your ears. Great album.
