iTunes Review

Future of Forestry concludes its Travel trilogy on a note of transcendence and release. As on the first two EPs in this series, singer/instrumentalist Eric Owyoung applies layers of acoustic and electronic textures to create intricate soundscapes within the confines of the standard pop song format. His painterly lyric style avoids blunt spiritual statements in favor of prayers and confessions expressed in evocative (if sometimes indirect) language. Travel III leans a bit more towards electronica than earlier releases, though Owyoung punctuates his techno pulsations with heavy guitar riffage on tracks like “Bold and Underlined” and “Your Day’s Not Over.” His arrangements combine the embroidered minimalism of contemporary Britpop with a prog-rock sense of ambition and grandeur. “Working to Be Loved,” for instance, works in an almost symphonic manner as it shifts from ambient verses into a joyously uplifting chorus. Other tunes – especially “Horizon Rainfall” – are delicate sonic miniatures made from shimmering tones. Future of Forestry is a creative unit of unusual imagination and grace.

FOF Never Disappoints

With as much talent as Eric Owyoung has, it would be hard for this album to be anything short of amazing. The guy is a brilliant producer, incredible musician and fantastic human being to boot. I had the pleasure of meeting the band during their Christmas tour of 2009 and seeing them in concert - what an experience I will never forget. Their music is soulful and spiritual without being overtly religious or exclusive, which is why it is so powerful. Aside from the amazing and poetic lyrics, the music is complex and multilayered without becoming complicated or losing the strong melodic connection that it succeeds in maintaining. All of their music goes straight to the heart, but brings your mind along for the ride as well, with contemplative messages entwined in melodies that evoke a strong uplifting presence. Thanks, you guys, for another great one! --Marla from Ashland, Oregon

They just keep getting better...

I remember buying my first FOF album and the marketing on the cover had a quote from somebody saying something like, "These guys should be opening for U2, they're that good." Now that I have all their albums I couldn't agree more. FOF deserves to be so much more widely known and listened to then they are. These guys are so talented, lyrically and musically, and they just keep getting better. Travel III, though different than the first two, continues in the tradition of the first two EP's with creative new music. Buy it, then go back and buy all the rest of their albums!

Something different

Finally a group that dares to be different and to make music that is beautiful and pure. I applaud FOF for not compromising their talent which is undoubtly God given. I pray that you all continue on your path and to never cease. God is every thing and you all certainly express that in the music you create. We are out here and were are listening.
