Nice Tribute 5/5

This is a nice tribute to Nujabes, he would most definitely be proud. Personally I feel that DJ Ezasscul, DJ Sorama, St.Mic, and Taku are the only artists on the album who really put true emotions into their songs, the other artist were too plain for me, they have no emotions in their music. This album is perfect for any true die hard Nujabes fan who wishes to give him a final farewell.

Jun Seba's Artistry

People usually remember Jun Seba, aka "Nujabes," as the man behind the ecletic soundtrack for the hit anime series "Samurai Champloo." The show itself being remarkable, it was the soundtrack that gave the samurai-based tale something to be remember by. The music world lost a talented artist when Jun-san passed away sadly, but his music will continue to affect many listeners and producers. He was definitely ahead of the game.

This "Tribute to Jun" album encompasses his career and ultimately, the musical front that he pushed. In the hip-hop theater of operations, it seems like 808, cookie-cutter/autotune laced beats win battles for audible supremacy. What is special about hip-hop in other nations is that many still dig the old-skool foundations, creative sampling and want to follow that route; they are not yet corrupted by pop culture sounds. Jun's work was about simplicity, yet beauty. Hip-hop, but artistry. Beats, but classical. Almost all of his tracks have a piano riff with a set of dirty drums. The works borderline jazz, yet we can't call it jazzy-hop as the drums bring back the oomph to the hip-hop feel.

Finally, is the aura of the music. Its music to be enjoyed, to be relaxed to. Music of peace and calm. A soundtrack for the mind. Rainy day music...or music as you walk around your neighborhood with the sun shining down in your face. Read a book with this...drive to the sunset to this. In the end, Jun Seba's work was bringing back the calm to hip-hop production. He encompassed music, his life was about music, and this tribute album shows what he was about. My favorite track? "Fairy Tale."

One of the few artists that words could ever describe

I remember first discovering Seba Jun's music through the anime Samurai Champloo. As stated earlier by some reviewers, what made that show memorable was the soundtrack. I thought, "It's amazing that emotions and artistic expression can be expressed in these simple, yet complex beats that speak volumes." Anyway, this album is a very fitting tribute to Nujabes and the opening track serves as a taste of what is to come on the rest of the album as tracks 1-12 relax and make you think about life.
