iTunes Review
After years of delays, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris finally joined forces in 1986 to record an album’s worth of songs. Trio was released the following year to substantial critical acclaim and commercial success, and this lovingly-rendered project is still a delight to hear. The natural affinity these three singers have for blending voices is as evident as their shared affection for old-fashioned country. Parton takes the lead for the spirited “Wildflowers,” Ronstadt lends quiet drama to “I’ve Had Enough” and Harris touches a chord of deep sorrow on “My Dear Companion.” “To Know Him Is To Love Him” recasts an old Phil Spector tune as a bluegrass ballad, while “Telling Me Lies” finds the threesome working nicely in a more contemporary country vein. From the shimmering heartache of “Making Plans” to the exalted longing of “Farther Along,” the tracks here are vibrant with feeling. A mixture of L.A. and Nashville players — including such notables as David Lindley, Albert Lee and Mark O’Connor — add to the overall excellence. Most of all, Trio is Dolly, Linda and Emmylou finding common ground and making some of the most satisfying music of their careers.

A Perfect 10!!!
This is one of the best country albums of all times. When you first think about it, Dolly, Emmylou, and Linda seem like an odd combination, but when you hear them sing together, it makes perfect sense. This is an example of how sometimes artists can draw out the very best in each other. In this case, they are like three shades of the same color, and every song is too perfect for me to ever adequately describe in this review. Buy it. You will listen to it over and over just like I have been doing since 1987.
not a surprise....
if you go back to the 70's and listen to these ladies albums they all sing back ground vocals for each other. Dolly sings on Linda, Linda sings on Emmy, Emmy sings on Dolly...they were known as the Trio for years before they ever did an album all together singing in their incredible ability to meld their voices together and make timeless and beautiful music....good stuff!!!!!!
one of my favorites
This album reminds me of my beloved aunts and my childhood. Every year my mother and I went on "girl" trips which included all of her sisters. We listened to this album repeatedly and I grew to love it as much as they did. I still find myself listening to this album. The harmonies are terrific, the songs are poignant. One of the best albums I have ever owned.
