Cool, Crisp, Funky R&B
This is exactly the direction R&B should be heading into. This entire CD is so well done and cool that I had a hard time believing that this was R&B. Not just the stereotypical love song type of music R&B is usually associated with, this album really puts a dent in the conventional wisdom for expectations of this sort of music. Buy the whole thing.
J Dilla is Everlasting
The late great J Dilla can choose the artists he works with very well (Though they were previous friends). Platinum Pied Pipers are an inovative, soulful, hip hop sounding group. They haven't created this mixture, but they're certainly one of the best at doing it. "The Shotgun Intro" is a great opening with J Dilla spittin' his very unique flow, "No Worries" really let's Steve Spacek shine with the samba-esque rhytm, Detroit Winter gives a raw and very lyrical look at the streets of Detroit, and my personal favorite "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" (including a bonus track) ends this beautifully done album with style. I would really like to hear more from this duo and who they will throw on their next album full of dope beats. I suggest you buy their other singles or EP's which one includes a cover song by Dwele "Open Your Eyes" that is done very well. I would buy this album if it was $50! (I'm Exaggerating), but believe me when i say it is definitly worth the money.
Very Nice Soulful Album!!
A nice blend of soul and underground hip-hop is in this album. Fans of both genres would crave the Detroit sound.
