Album Review

With Trouble at the Henhouse, the Tragically Hip turned in an album that is in the same vein as their previous record, Day for Night. Although Trouble at the Henhouse would have benefited from a more gritty sound, the CD is a set of professional anthemic hard rock — with occasionally dips into bar band boogie.

Customer Reviews

Underrated.

this is Canada's answer to REM. the soul-filled indie rock that relies more on good lyrics and strong guitar playing to transcend their ordinary surroundings. Gordon Downie will never be mistaken for Celine Dion in terms of skill but he is nevertheless original and not afraid to challenge some traditional ideas and myths. Gift Shop is a classic and every bit as good as REM's Radio Free Europe or the Replacements, "Hold my Life". In my limited opinion of them, this is their best record and one of the best indie-rock albums I have ever had the pleasure of hearing.

Not the worst of THip

This is the greatest album lyrically for the Hip. The album brings one of my favorites (Gift Shop) to center stage as the opening track. Ahead By a Century is one of their better songs. Don't Wake Daddy is one of the more different tracks by the Hip but gets the job done. Apartment song is hard to understand but I like it. Let's Stay Engaged and Sherpa also provide a different side of The Hip. Overall, The Hip ROCK! They will always be underrated because noone will ever understand the magnitude of their greatness.

we were high, we were sherpa-high...

I have loved this band since I first heard Fully Completely while working at a record store in college. While I would be hard-pressed not to give ALL of their albums 5 stars (except for their debut), this is the one that deserves 6. Don't Wake Daddy is my favorite song ever. The intro to Springtime In Vienna rolls through my head at least once a day. Genius from beginning to end. "what our apartment does when we're not around does not concern us."

Formed in 1983 in Kingston, Ontario, the Tragically Hip came together with childhood friends Gordon Downie (vocals), Bobby Baker (guitar), Paul Langlois (guitar), Gord Sinclair (bass), and Johnny Fay (drums).
