iTunes Review

San Francisco may be leading the charge of new millennium garage bands, but that hasn’t stopped Noel Heroux from stepping out of the fumes and into the sunlight with his massive, synthesized pop anthems that hook like a narcotic. Heroux isn’t shy or stingy with the layers (and layers) of booming percussion and radiant synths, and he continues to have the good sense to avoid reverb overload on his sunny vocals. The synth arpeggios opening the crazily catchy “Sails” can only be a loving nod to bands like Orchestral Manoeuvers in the Dark; and as with OMD’s biggest hits, the tune morphs in and out of crackling, cool percussion and huge, neon-colored striations of dance floor rhythms that seem both airy and earthshaking. There are hints of bands past and present (DOM and MGMT come to mind in the "current" camp). It’s a nimble record that deftly mixes synths, horns (yes, really, a sax!), harpsichord, electronic noise, and the biggest of booty-shaking beats; it juxtaposes ebullient, hands-in-the air optimism with darker experimental flourishes. Neat, neat trick.

I'm IN Love.

Truly madly deeply......

this is it

here it is. the next ocular spectacular, merriweather post pavilion, funeral, broken bells, what have you. i will be stunned if they don't blow up. this diversity is an achievement. true loves, no love, same, and bring us closer together all on the same album? whaaa? it goes from an off-kilter squeaky chant fest, to chillwave syths, to trumpet land, to a super catchy 80s chorus driven gem. im sold. i am a slave to this music. hooray for earth, because its the home of this wonderful band.

Hooray for this band!

Well, I've heard of HFE for a couple of months now. I first heard them on Alt Nation and immediately purchased their EP. It was amazing. Then they released a single, "True Loves". That was amazing. Now their album just came up. It's amazing! They sound a lot like Yeasayer, but they are very unique. Also, check out their music video for "True Loves" as that is amazing as well. Buy this album!

That album, self-titled and self-released, appeared on August 23, 2006. The band then signed to Dopamine Records, which released the EP Cellphone on February 26, 2008, and...
