Perfect Beauty

I have been a Dream Theater fan for many years now, more recently becoming a James LaBrie fan as I have developed a palette for his works. So it was pretty much a given that I was going to buy this album upon release. And I am glad that I did. The idea of the True Symphonic Rockestra is not entirely groundbreaking, but I had yet to hear accomplished opera singers pay homage to classics with a rocking metal tinge. The music ala Dirk Ulrich and company reminded me of a some-what laid back Trans-Siberian Orchestra, with emphasis on string arrangement and a nice layer of metal with speed drumming. They even pay homage to Fear Factory on some tracks, which is cool to hear. The vocals are in the forefront of the mix, however and it is absolutely beautiful. James sounds like he did in his prime ala "Images and Words", and Vladimir Grishko and Thomas Dewald are stunning in their delivery; honest, passionate, and at times touched with humor and excitement. You can hear that everyone loved making this record. In conclusion, "Concerto in True Minor" is recommended for fans of LaBrie, symphonic metal, and especially for those like myself who are not very familiar with operatic performance, but are ready to open themselves to a world rich in beauty.

An all time great maserpiece

Having been a fan of Dream Theater since 1992 and a fan of the Opera, this was a much appreciated release. I listened to it from start to finish with a smile on my face throughout the entire musical phenomenon experience. I only wish "Con Te Partiro" had made the list.

?

I'm caught in the middle. I'm a huge DT fan, so i thought james labrie was good, but this is NOT his type of music, so it was a little weird
