iTunes Review

Fleetwood Mac decided to follow up the career-defining, best-selling Rumours with an album that would not compromise their integrity or seem like a quick rehash of their proven FM-radio-friendly formula. Tusk is not Rumours, Pt. II. It's an expansive, 20-track collection that allows each of the three songwriters – Lindsey Buckingham, Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks – to stretch their musical vocabulary with the very best sonics that money could buy. Buckingham took on much of the production himself, recording at home and in the personally modified Village Recorder studio in West Los Angeles, until he fashioned an album both quirky and accessible, as much a part of the ‘70s rock elite establishment as informed by the funkier experiments of the emerging punk and new wave. Though individual tracks do stand out – McVie’s “Over and Over,” “Never Make Me Cry,” Nicks’ “Sara,” “Storms” and “Beautiful Child,” Buckingham’s “Walk a Thin Line” and “Tusk” – the album is best experienced as a long, flowing whole, moods emerging, harmonies shifting and odd sound experiments percolating underneath the smooth professional sheen.

Awesome album

Just wish it came with an image gallery, picturebook or whatever they call the inner album artwork. The artwork alone in this album will take you on a visual trippy ride ;)

One of the most relevant albums of all time...

This is an experimental album that works. One surprise leads into another surprise. I love Rumours, but this is the bravest album from the 70s. It squelches anything by U2, Eagles and Aerosmith, when it comes to creativity. I think it's the most important album from he 70s.

Fleetwood Mac's Best

by worlds forgotten girl

This album was one of the best albums of its time, providing a nice counterpoint to hard rock and (gasp) hair bands and the like. It is not quite pure pop, because it is more than that, particularly on tracks like Tusk. The album works best when listened to in its entirely, since the songs seem to flow so naturally from one to the next. That being said, the Nicks tracks are superb, particularly Storms and Angel. Buy this-it is a classic.

While most bands undergo a number of changes over the course of their careers, few groups experienced such radical stylistic changes as Fleetwood Mac. Initially conceived as a hard-edged British blues combo in the late '60s, the band gradually evolved into a polished pop/rock act over the course of a...
