Signs of life...

CBL return with a much anticipated release - these guys continue to be at the forefront of progressive ambient, with their sophisticated, elegant, epic, multi-textured sonic compositions that fuse cutting-edge electronica with a profoundly organic tone. This album is quite different from their previous release, 'Interloper', in that there is an absence of driving base-heavy rhythms. Its more contemplative and reflective. The multifaceted, layered depths of CBLs music is simply astonishing - this release rewards multiple listenings because the incredible lush complexity of the tracks reveal something new each time. This is music for sailing the solar system, gliding across dreamscapes, and floating through oceans of the mind.... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

yawn

No beats, vague melodies, open structure... I am sorry to admit I'm disappointed with this release. I love their previous releases so I was really looking forward to this one. Yes, musicians need to grow and their style and creativity evolve over time. Ok, I get that. But this album sounds just like every other "ambient dreamscape" artist out there. There's nothing original here. Or interesting. Everything that made CBL unique is missing. If this had been their first release years ago, I would not have become a fan. Sorry. Hopefully their next release will be back to their more interesting style. I'm going to skip this one. (BTW, for those of you who love it, please do. This style of music does not appeal to me, I think it's boring. That is just my opinion. So if you disagree and you love it then, yay, I'm glad. Meanwhile, I'll pass.)

Phase shifting -

I continue to be amazed at the creative depths of these guys -

Yes different. This is not more of the same as was on Interloper or World of Sleepers - If you go back to Hydoponic Garden and listen - the compositions change shape and direction - the phase shifts and you are brought along on a journey of texture and dreamscape.
Like prior releases, this leaves me anticipating the next release, the next shift - and leaves me wanting more.

Well done. Again.
