Album Review
The big, chiming, atmospheric guitars; the chesty, emotional singing; the huge and cathartic choruses; the production that creates a veritable cathedral of those layered guitar chords and crashing cymbals — yes, the guys in Future of Forestry have listened to a few U2 albums. But their vocal sound is ultimately quite different (lead vocalist Eric Owyoung is consistently on pitch, for one thing) and their Christianity is far less coy. The songs on their debut album are all more or less the same, but the effect is more pleasingly consistent than annoyingly samey: the almost-metal crunch of "All I Want" seems to follow logically from the densely chiming atmospherics of "Open Wide," and if the overdubbed vocal octaves on "Twilight" sound just a bit dated, well, so what? The 1980s were not the worst decade for emotional guitar rock. On "Thinking of You" Owyoung's debt to Bono is more obvious, and on "Sanctitatis" he fails to resist the dangerous allure of the Latin Lyric with Bells, but he quickly redeems himself on the acoustic-based and quietly gorgeous "If You Find Her." All in all, this is a very auspicious debut.

Unbelievable listening experience...
What a terrific day. I bought this record this morning and have spent the vast majority of the day listening. There are so many terrific moments on this record that I can't detail them all....the highlights for me are Sunrising (the emotional middle section), If You Find Her (think Simon & Garfunkel), and All I Want (intensity and passion). But the best thing about this record is the track order...it's truly a listening experience. You'll skip ahead to the songs that catch your ear at first, but eventually will just let it play. My new favorite band and a record that 2007 is going to have difficulty beating.
Great alt/rock album for those open minded without prejudice
Don't let negative vibes make a decision for you. At least listen to the samples.
Why should a band's philosophy of life be attacked in the way as some reviewers have? Is any other band in tha alt. rock section excluded and prejudiced like this? If one is going to highlight a religion/philosophy/spirituality of a band, then one should be consistent and do it for every alt./rock band (and song for that matter). No band/person lives in a vacuum. Every band comes from some place. I don't see a lot of prejudice against Bono, Coldplay, Switchfoot, or other bands in similar categories that have philosophical messages.
So, if you are open-minded to perspectives, and simply enjoy good music, you just may spin this for a while and be glad you did! Watch out, you may also just find hope...
Enchanting
This band has a bright path ahead of them and it shows through their careful layering of sounds and lyrics. I have enjoyed their music from their previous band Something Like Silas and though their focus was praise and worship, this new venture is just as spiritual.
Songs like “Speak To Me Gently” and “Open Wide” have hope infused in each of its lyrics. Meaningful without being pretentious, songwriter and vocalist Eric Owyoung knows what he is doing.
I truly recommend this band for the fans who loved SLS and for people who like their rock with some significant meaning. I suggest hunting down their previous LP’s, live album, and EP if you can find them. Future of Forestry is one to keep an eye on.
